Set the rides and the comparison appears here.

Runs in this page — nothing you type is sent anywhere. Fares are ordinary-car reserved seats on pass-covered trains (HIKARI, SAKURA, KODAMA), regular season, as published March and April 2026.

1How the comparison works

The calculator adds up what your long rides would cost as single reserved tickets, then puts the pass price beside it. A ride is one way: a Tokyo–Kyoto return counts as two. City travel is left out on purpose, because the pass covers no subway or private line — that part of the week looks the same whichever way you buy the rail.

Pass prices in the tool are the 2026 adult ordinary-car figures: ¥50,000, ¥80,000 and ¥100,000 on japanrailpass.net, against ¥53,000, ¥84,000 and ¥105,000 through an overseas agency since 1 October 2026.

2The fares behind each route

Reserved ordinary seats on the trains a pass covers, in the regular season. The seasonal bands move these numbers by a few hundred yen in peak weeks, so treat the result as close rather than exact.

Route, one wayReserved seatRides a 7-day pass needs
Tokyo–Kyoto¥13,8503.6
Tokyo–Shin-Osaka¥14,4003.5
Tokyo–Kanazawa¥14,6003.4
Tokyo–Hiroshima¥18,9102.6
Shin-Osaka–Hiroshima¥10,4204.8

3What the tool leaves out

NOZOMI and MIZUHO rides carry a supplement on top of whatever you decide here: ¥4,960 between Tokyo and Kyoto or Shin-Osaka, ¥4,180 to Nagoya, ¥6,500 to Hiroshima. A trip built on the fastest trains adds those to the single fares, and the pass doesn't close the gap. Green Car passes aren't covered by this tool either — it compares ordinary seats, which is what most trips buy.
