The luggage question in Japan is rarely about weight and always about the last two hours: you can walk into the city hands-free for the price of a modest dinner.
- Same-day, one bag
- ¥2,450 up
- Haneda cut-off
- 11:00
- Narita cut-off
- 10:30
1What same-day delivery actually does in 2026
Both carriers run the service and both mean the same thing: a bag handed over at the airport counter in the morning reaches a city hotel the same day, usually from about 16:00. Yamato's version needs no reservation, runs between airports or stations and hotels, and takes bags up to 30 kg with three sides totalling 200 cm and a declared-value ceiling of ¥300,000.
| Route | Hand in by | Price by bag size |
|---|---|---|
| Haneda → Tokyo 23 wards (Yamato) | 11:00 | 60 cm ¥2,450, 80 cm ¥2,750, 100 cm ¥3,070, 120 cm ¥4,490, 140 cm ¥5,150, up to 160 cm ¥7,550 |
| Narita → Tokyo 23 wards (Yamato) | 10:30, or 09:50 at Terminal 3 | The same size bands with the airport handling fee already included |
| Haneda → Tokyo 10 wards and Urayasu (Sagawa) | 13:00 | 60 cm ¥910, 80 cm ¥1,220, 100 cm ¥1,520, suitcase 140 cm ¥2,440 |
| Narita → Tokyo 10 wards and Urayasu (Sagawa) | 14:00 | ¥2,120 to ¥4,690 depending on size, including the ¥660 airport fee and the ¥550 same-day fee |
Read the two operators' price lists carefully, because they aren't measuring the same journey. Sagawa's ¥910 entry price covers Tokyo's ten central wards and Urayasu only; a hotel outside that footprint isn't on the same-day list at all, whatever you pay.
2The cut-off is the whole plan
A bag handed in at Haneda after 11:00 isn't a same-day bag, and Sagawa's Haneda counter is stricter still at 13:00 for the central-ward footprint. At Narita the Yamato counters in Terminal 1 north and south and Terminal 2 take same-day delivery until 10:30, and the Terminal 3 counter closes the same-day window at 09:50 — so a late-morning landing at Narita rules the service out and a 12:00 arrival at Haneda leaves you about an hour.
And airport counter hours matter for the same reason. Sagawa's Haneda counters open 7:00 to 20:00, and its Narita Terminal 1 north counter runs from 06:30 until an hour after the last international arrival. Yamato's Narita counters run 06:30 to 22:30, or until an hour after the last departure if that's later.
3Sending bags the other way
Hotel to airport is a different service with a different deadline: Yamato's Airport TA-Q-BIN needs the bag handed in two days before your flight, or three days from some regions, and it adds a ¥660 airport handling fee to the ordinary fare. Collect it at the departure airport counter between three hours and one hour before the flight. That makes it the right answer for a multi-city trip and the wrong answer for a final morning.
4What I would do
Land early, send the big bag from the airport and spend the rest of the day with a backpack. Two travellers with one large case each pay about ¥6,000 to skip the hotel-baggage problem entirely, which is roughly the cost of one taxi across Tokyo. If the flight lands after 11:00 at Haneda, use a station locker for the afternoon and take the bag to the hotel yourself.
